Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport is Israel’s largest and busiest civil airport with about 14.2 million passengers in 2013.
The airport is near the town of Lod, 15 kilometres (9 miles) south-east of Tel Aviv. It is run by the Israel Airports Authority, a state company that manages all public airports and border crossings in the State of Israel.
Today, Terminal 3 is used for international flights and Terminal 1 is used for domestic flights. The airport has three runways and is used by commercial, private and military aircraft.
Ben Gurion Airport is considered one of the safest airports in the world, with a security force comprising the police and army.
