The Feltrinelli Porta Volta project aims at completing the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation building, a study and research centre, recognized worldwide, and two other buildings used mainly as offices.
Strongly inspired by Lombardy architectural lines, revisited in a modern key, the project of Herzog & de Meuron designs a building structure consisting of two bodies, which enhance the urban elements and the old Gate, thanks to two twin structures. The rich tradition of Lombardy twin buildings is thus re-presented, enhancing and expanding the public green areas created by the ancient city walls. The area involved is between viale Pasubio and viale Crispi, owned by the Feltrinelli family since the late-19th century, and  between viale Montello and Porta Volta, which belongs to the City of Milan.
The redevelopment plan also provides for the creation of large green spaces, bike paths and walking trails, along with business facilities. The whole project will do a lot to enhance the Porta Volta area, and therefore the city and its inhabitants as a whole.
